چکیده
Purpose Long-term comparative effectiveness research on localized prostate cancer treatments is scarce, and evidence lacking especially for brachytherapy. The aim of this study was to assess the long-term impact side effects radical prostatectomy, brachytherapy, external radiation therapy patients with at 10 years, using propensity score analyses. Methods Materials This a prospective observational cohort men who received diagnosis clinically (clinical stage T1 or T2, low intermediate risk group) were treated prostatectomy (n = 139), brachytherapy 317), 194). Treatment decisions jointly made by physicians. Patient-reported outcome (PRO) evaluation included Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite Short Form-36, administered centrally telephone interviews before annually after treatment. covers urinary, bowel, sexual, hormonal domains. To PRO changes over time, while accounting correlation among repeated measures, generalized estimating equation models adjusted scores constructed. Results completion rate years 85.8%. Generalized showed that pattern effects, substantial urinary incontinence sexual dysfunction, remained until treatment (standard deviation [SD], –1.1 –1.3, respectively). Brachytherapy produced late deterioration in continence (SD, –0.4) function –0.9) appeared midterm, but differences from statistically significant (P < .001 adjusting score). External similar results bowel bother –0.3). Conclusions Although groups attenuated relevant still years. Our findings support option causes least PROs; it therefore an alternative be considered when making evidence-based

Comparative effectiveness research in localized prostate cancer treatment.
Prostate-specific antigen testing has dramatically increased the incidence of localized prostate cancer. Most men with localized cancer attempt curative therapy, usually with surgery or radiation. However, there is uncertainty about whether and how to best treat these cancers. No published controlled trials have directly compared surgery against radiation or either treatment against active surv...
متن کاملComparative effectiveness of radical prostatectomy and curative radiotherapy in localized prostate cancer: long-term follow-up
We sought to investigate the long-term outcomes after radical prostatectomy (RP) and external-beam radiation therapy (EBRT) for the treatment of localized prostate cancer in Japanese patients. RP and radiation therapy are curative treatments for localized prostate cancer. However, there is controversy around which treatment is superior in Japanese patients. The aim of our retrospective study wa...
متن کاملOutcomes in Localized Prostate Cancer: National Prostate Cancer Register of Sweden Follow-up Study
BACKGROUND Treatment for localized prostate cancer remains controversial. To our knowledge, there are no outcome studies from contemporary population-based cohorts that include data on stage, Gleason score, and serum levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA). METHODS In the National Prostate Cancer Register of Sweden Follow-up Study, a nationwide cohort, we identified 6849 patients aged 70 ye...
متن کاملFree-flap mandibular reconstruction: a 10-year follow-up study.
Free-flap reconstruction of oncologic mandibular defects has become the modern standard of care. However, no previous studies have established the long-term results of such reconstructions. The objective of this study was to review functional and aesthetic outcomes in patients a decade after free-flap mandibular reconstruction.A single surgeon's experience with free-flap reconstruction of the m...
متن کاملThe significance of GATA3 expression in breast cancer: a 10-year follow-up study.
GATA3 is a transcription factor closely associated with estrogen receptor alpha in breast carcinoma, with a potential prognostic utility. This study investigated the immunohistochemical expression of GATA3 in estrogen receptor alpha-positive and estrogen receptor alpha-negative breast carcinomas. One hundred sixty-six cases of invasive breast carcinomas with 10-year follow-up information were a...
